Easy 5 minute DIY Gift Idea $1.00 Gemstone Magnet Photo Holder

If you need a quick, easy, thoughtful diy gift idea that is super cheap, this is it! It takes 5 minutes to make, and costs about $1 (including the picture)! My friends, if you are broke and want to give someone something really special, this is the diy project for you!

Did you know that thumbtacks are magnetic? They are! That's what makes this so fun!

Here is what you need to make this rustic glam picture holder:

7.25" of 1x6
You can get 13 pieces from 1 8' board!
Just ask them to cut the board for you (they cut mine for free)!
1 8' board is $5.65 at Home Depot.
HINT: Check their scrap pile in the back, you might be able to find something that will work for 75% off! I've gotten a nearly perfect board from the scrap pile for only $1.41 before!
Total- $0.10- $0.43

Gemstone Stickers
You need 4- one for each corner
I got a whole sheet of them at the Dollar Tree. They just happened to be the perfect size. The magnets are 5mm wide so make sure your gemstones are at least 5mm wide, too.
You might have some already if you are into scrapbooking or cardmaking!
Total- $.04

Neodymium Magnets

5x7 Photo
Trim .25" off the 7" side to make it 6.75"
.58 each at Sam's Club

Misc.
-Sandpaper
-stain (Minwax Provincial- http://amzn.to/2lS54cK)
$.04

Grand total: $0.93- $1.23

Let's get started

After you get your wood cut it will look like this:
Sand it. Then stain it. I used Minwax Provincial- http://amzn.to/2lS54cK
It's really easy to use- wipe it on with a clean rag and the wipe off any excess after 5 minutes.

While the stain is drying, make your magnets. All you do is take your gemstone stickers and stick each one onto a magnet. You need 4 per photo holder (one per corner).

Then, mark where your thumbtacks go. I measured in 3/4."

I used a hammer to push the thumbtacks in all the way.
Then you just use your magnets to hold your picture to the thumbtacks!
The finished project is so beautiful! And it was so easy!! I hope you enjoyed it!

Wishing you lots of DIY love,
Jessica
